From March 10 to 12, the 2025 Youth Forum of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) was successfully held in Vienna, Austria. Hosted by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the forum brought together 32 youth delegates from 25 countries worldwide to discuss global drug governance issues. Yan Jinye, an undergraduate student from the Ningbo University Health Science Center, was invited as one of China’s youth representatives to present at the forum.

During the forum, youth delegates engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as drug prevention, health promotion, and youth empowerment. They jointly drafted the 2025 Youth Declaration, which was read aloud at the opening ceremony of the 68th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. Drawing on her medical background, Yan shared unique insights into drug-related challenges. She emphasized that youth play an irreplaceable role in drug prevention efforts, highlighting their ability to contribute tangibly through community engagement and advocacy. “Youth are the hope of society,” Yan stated. “We have the capacity and responsibility to build healthier communities.”

Currently a third-year clinical medicine major at the Ningbo University Health Science Center, Yan is an active applicant for Party membership with outstanding academic performance and research capabilities, demonstrating strong cross-disciplinary competencies. Her achievements include first prize in Zhejiang Province’s FLTRP Cup English Speaking Contest, first prize at the 7th National College Students’ Art Exhibition, and a silver medal at the China International College Students’ Innovation Contest. Beyond academics, she is committed to social service as a publicist for the Haishu District Drug Control Social Work Center in Ningbo and a volunteer at the Nanmen Subdistrict “6.26 Studio,” where she educates residents about drug prevention and provides psychological support and group counseling for rehabilitation patients. She also interviewed He Yuanying, one of China’s “Top Ten Civilian Anti-Drug Advocates,” and authored a related report.
