On April 7, Professor Lu Jiahai—an advocate and practitioner of "One Health" in China, one of the initiators and executive chairs of the 697th Xiangshan Science Conference, Principal Scientist of the National Key R&D Program, and Dean of the One Health Research Institute at Wenzhou Medical University—delivered the 165th lecture of the Xinglin Forum at Ningbo University Health Science Center.
During the lecture, themed "Advances in 'One Health' Research and Public Health Practice," Professor Lu began by addressing major public health challenges to human health, including antibiotic abuse, global environmental change, emerging infectious diseases, and food safety. He deeply expounded on the importance of the One Health concept, emphasizing its call for interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral, and cross-regional collaboration and communication. He stressed the need to integrate resources across multiple sectors to safeguard the health of humans, animals, and the environment collectively. Additionally, Professor Lu highlighted the necessity of the One Health philosophy and key technologies in advancing the construction of a global community of health for all.
The lecture was chaired by Professor Xu Guozhang, Associate Dean of Ningbo University Health Science Center and Dean of the School of Public Health. Nearly 100 participants attended the academic event, including experts from Ningbo Customs, Ningbo Municipal and district/county-level Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs), medical and health institutions at all levels, as well as faculty and students from the Health Science Center and related colleges at Ningbo University.
